There are a number of coaching opportunities organized for different levels and genders every year, usually by one of the committee members. Keep an eye on the monthly newsletters and our Facebook page!
The club also organises national coaches to visit, usually for a fee.

Club League:
usually run on Monday and Tuesday night from 5:30pm to 9:00pm
mixed gender
comprised of variable number of team of 4-5 levels - level 1 being the more accomplished players and 5 being those fairly new to the game
each team has a captain
an opportunity to meet new playing partners
an opportunity to support your team
Other useful stuff:
If you win:
you shout the other player something from the club bar
you move your name one place above your partner (if higher-placed) on the club ladder
all games you win are aggregated into a team score
You ref a game every night
Team captains organize the open and closing of the club and bar on their allocated week
If you can’t play, contact your partner AND organize a reserve or find another time during the same week to play. Don’t just tell someone that might be playing that evening. Contact details are in the draw. Please don’t leave your partner without a game or a surprise change.
Ideally, games must be played on the designated nigh to make it a social event.
If you’d like to play but can’t commit to every game, don't hesitate to put your name on the reserve list!
The rostered duty team is responsible for:
Opening the courts and turning on lights and heat pumps before the first game
Setting up the scoring tablets and laptop for results entry (stored in bar area)
Opening the bar and till (key in the safe)
Plugging the tablets back into the charger in the bar
Closing the bar and till
Operating the EFTPOS and till
Closing the courts, turning off the lights and returning the keys to the safe
Checking all results have been entered correctly in the league spreadsheet
While the captain may not actually perform all of these tasks they are responsible for seeing them completed.
Captains are responsible for:
Ensuring there is a complete team for the draw
Completing the competition draw with results on the laptop.
Updating the club ladder
Organizing the playing order
Organizing the umpires and scorers
During the school terms there are a number of coaching sessions during the week and some mini tournaments where juniors learn:
racket skills
rules and etiquette
reffing and marking
When juniors have reached a certain skill level they are encouraged to enter the weekly club league and inter club tournaments. All coaches have completed Squash NZ coaching modules and are signatories to the national Coaches Code of Ethics.
The club has some equipment available.
Eye wear and non-marking shoes must be worn!
Annual competition between Central Otago clubs. Clubs enter mixed teams of 4 into 3 divisions, Prems (grade C1 and above), Div 01 (grade D2 to C2) and Div 02 (E1 and below). Teams play every Wednesday night on a home and away draw.
The competition starts around May and the length depends on the number of teams entered.
When playing at home, the host team provides dinner.
Team captains must forward the results to the competition controller every week.
All games are for points so you must be registered with iSquash and be a full member
Players pair with their opponents based on the grade order in iSquash - so each team has a number 1, 2 and so on
There is a finals competition at the end of the season
If you can't play on any particular night, you will need organise a replacement
This is aimed at beginner squash players with 3 of the 4 players being newish. A really social competition with an emphasis on fun rather than results (a drink is highly recommended with your opponent/team afterward) The format is:
Teams of 4
5 minutes warm up with 15-minute games
One round to start at 6.00pm and another at 7.00pm & 8.00pm
Non stop scoring with team scores added together to find a result

A Squash NZ graded competition played over a week and ending with finals on Saturday night for club members. Determines champions for each grade within the club and a number of other awards such as Most Improved. You must be graded to play.
A Squash NZ-graded competition is open to all NZ squash players. Games are played for over a week and matches end with finals on Saturday night on King's Birthday weekend. You must be graded to play.
